Have you got questions regarding training? Have a look below for answers to frequently asked questions (FAQ) or contact us here.
Can I use Active Kids vouchers?
Yes, the AFTA is a registered Active Kids provider, so you are able to redeem your Active Kids vouchers with us. You can register by going to the Service NSW website.
Do I have to sign up for a minimum time?
No, the AFTA does not use lock-in contracts or automatic direct debits. We understand that everyone has different commitments throughout the year.
what do I wear?
For the first couple of sessions, you can wear casual clothes that you can easily move in. Once you get your uniform, you will be training in that. We also train without shoes or socks.
Can I train with my kids?
Definitely! We encourage students of all ages and Taekwondo is a great family activity. We also offer family discounts.
What age do you have to be to train?
We teach students from the age of 5 years old. This is to ensure that the student is able to have a better understanding of what doing a Martial Art is all about.
Do I need to be fit to train?
All students are assessed on their fitness levels when they start training. All of our Instructors make sure that students train within their own abilities.
What is a grading and who can participate?
Our Taekwondo style can be enjoyed for health and fitness, and as a member of the AFTA you are also able to be part of our grading system. This system allows students to progress through the various belt grades.
Grading examinations are held throughout the year at each of our clubs, and students are advised of their eligibility to grade by their club Instructor, as not every student is ready for every grading.

What are the belt grades?
As with many other Asian Martial Arts, AFTA belt ranks are marked by coloured belts. Beginners start with a white belt, and move to a white belt with yellow tip (stripe) after passing their first grading examination. The next belt colour is yellow, followed by green, blue, brown, and then black. Black Belt grades are referred to as Dans or Degrees.
I’ve never done Martial Arts before, can I still train?
Definitely! All students are assessed when they start by their Instructor and are taught accordingly. There is no requirement for prior Martial Arts knowledge to train AFTA Taekwondo.
How much does training cost?
We do not have contracts; fees are simply paid at the beginning of each calendar month or on the training day if training casually. Family discounts are also available.
How do I start AFTA Taekwondo? Do I need to book?
All you need to do is go to our Contact Us page and enter your details. One of our Senior Instructors will contact you to discuss which location and day/time will best suit you. Your first two trial lessons are free to allow you to try out the AFTA’s unique style of Taekwondo.
Should I train if I am unwell?
It is important to look after yourself and take time to recover from illness or injury before returning to training. Feel free to contact your Instructor to let them know that you are currently unwell and are unable to train at this time.
