1st April 2022 – Classes back to normal
Classes at all of our NSW locations are back to normal class times and days. We are asking anyone who feels unwell not to attend class and if you test positive for COVID to advise your Instructor.
1st February 2022 – Classes to resume for 2022
Classes at Sutherland and Bankstown will be re-starting on Tuesday 1st February with the following requirements
- Bookings are no longer necessary for class
- Mask wearing is recommended for to and from class
- Students are asked to arrive in uniform
- Toilets will be available
- Every student (or their parent/guardian) will be required to QR code into the venue before class
- Hand sanitiser will be used before class and available throughout class for all participants
- If you are feeling unwell, do not come to class
- If you come to class with COVID-19 symptoms the Instructor may ask you to go home
- Partner work is allowed
- Bag work is allowed
15th December 2021 – Further easing of restrictions for all NSW clubs
Classes at Caringbah, Bankstown, Sutherland and Riverwood will no longer have student number restrictions or students booking rerquirements. Using the club QR code to check in is still required.
Students will be able to participate in partner work from this date. If students are feeling unwell, they are asked not to attend class
15th November 2021 – AFTA Caringbah classes resume
Classes at the Caringbah club are able to re-start on Monday 15th November. Classes will remain limited to 20 participants and will be physically distanced through class.
- Class numbers are restricted to 20 participants including the Instructor
- Students must book into classes or will not be able to be admitted
- All participants (or their parents/guardians) must check in with the QR code before being admitted into class
- All participants 16 and over must show a valid vaccination certificate before being admitted to class
- Anyone feeling unwell will not be admitted to class
- Hand sanitiser will be used at the beginning of every class and during as required
- Students are asked to attend in uniform
- There is to be no sharing of personal equipment (i.e. drink bottles, towels, etc.)
- Physical distancing will be observed during class
- Masks are to be worn to and from class (for participants over 12) but are not required during class
- No partner work is able to be done at this time
- No spectators will be allowed into class at this time
- Instructors will record attendees electronically every class to allow for contact tracing if required
8th November 2021 – AFTA Riverwood classes resume
Classes at the Riverwood club are able to re-start on Monday 8th November. Classes will remain limited to 20 participants and will be physically distanced through class.
- Class numbers are restricted to 20 participants including the Instructor
- Students must book into classes or will not be able to be admitted
- All participants (or their parents/guardians) must check in with the QR code before being admitted into class

Online Classes
Online classes will no longer be held as AFTA face to face training resumes
21st October 2021 – AFTA face to face classes able to restart
As NSW starts re-opening, AFTA has received information that the Bankstown and Sutherland clubs are able to re-open classes starting the week of 25th October. Classes will be limited to 20 participants and will be physically distancing throughout training.

- Students must book into classes or will not be able to be admitted
- All participants (or their parents/guardians) must check in with the QR code before being admitted into class
- All participants 16 and over must show a valid vaccination certificate before being admitted to class

Online Classes
As not all of our clubs are able to reopen at this time, we will continue to run free online live classes weekly for AFTA students
7th July 2021 – NSW extends stay at home orders
Announced today, the NSW stay at home orders have been extended for an additional week until 30th July. AFTA face to face classes will remain suspended at this time.
26th June 2021 – NSW stay at home orders
As per the advice from the NSW Government, all NSW AFTA schools will be suspending their face to face classes for two weeks up to Friday 9th July. AFTA classes are moving back to the online platform during this time.
23rd June 2021 – New NSW restrictions
As per the advice from the NSW government, there are a number of restrictions that we will be observing at this time
- Class numbers are restricted to 20 including the Instructor
- Masks are to be worn by students and instructors (children under 12 are exempt)
- Anyone who is feeling unwell will not be admitted to class
- Temperature checks will be done on every student prior to being admitted to class
- Hand sanitiser will be used at the beginning of every class
- Students are asked to arrive in uniform
- There is to be no sharing of personal equipment (i.e. drink bottles, towels, gloves, etc.)
- Social distancing will be observed during class
- Partner work will not be allowed
- Spectators will not be allowed in class at this time
- Instructors will record attendees electronically every class to allow for contact tracing if required
15th March 2021 – NSW restrictions ease
With NSW restrictions easing, we are very pleased to be able to update our class restrictions.
- Students will no longer be required to book into classes.
- Our limit on student numbers within class has been able to increase.
- Temperature checks on students will no longer be required for entry into the hall.
- Students will still be asked to use hand sanitizer when entering the training hall. Hand sanitizer will be available for use during training if required.
- The Instructor at class is still required to record attendance electronically at the end of each night, if required for contact tracing.
- Spectators are still unable to attend classes.
- Spectators may be allowed to attend for grading examinations providing there is enough room to socially distance themselves. This is to be confirmed.
- Sharing of personal equipment is still not recommended (eg. drink bottles, towels, gloves)
- Partner work and use of equipment (eg. bags, paddles) is allowed
- Anyone who is feeling unwell will not be admitted to class
3rd August 2020 – Face to face classes continue
With the successful restart of our face to face classes at each of our NSW clubs, it is great to be able to announce that we will be continuing with our physical distancing during class, but with a few changes
- The class Instructor is the designated COVID-19 hygiene marshall
- Class numbers remain restricted to 20 including the Instructor
- Students must book into classes or will not be able to be admitted
- Anyone who is feeling unwell will not be admitted to class
- Temperature checks will be done on every student prior to being admitted to class
- Hand sanitiser will be used at the beginning of every class and during as required
- Students are asked to arrive in uniform
- There will be no sharing of personal equipment (i.e. drink bottles, towels, gloves, etc.)
- Social distancing will be observed during class
- Limited partner work will be allowed
- Limited use of equipment will be allowed – including a cleaning schedule for the equipment
- Spectators will not be allowed in class at this time
- Instructors will record attendees electronically every class to allow for contact tracing if required
14th July 2020 – Face to face classes to resume
It is very exciting to confirm that we are coming back to face to face training! We have received confirmation from many of our venues that we are able to start training under the AFTA COVID-19 safe plan from the start of NSW Term 3. Each of our NSW Instructors has completed their COVIDsafe accreditation to ensure that they are ready to start teaching face to face again.

This is very exciting news and we will continue to review and update our COVID-19 Health Information and our community as more information comes to hand.
2nd June 2020 – COVID-19 health restrictions are starting to ease
We have received advice that gyms, yoga and dance studios will be able to reopen in NSW. The reopen date is currently 13th June 2020. Due to this exciting information, we are currently in discussion with all of the NSW AFTA venues to confirm when we are able to restart our classes.
Please be aware, training will be a little different when we go back. Below are some of the restrictions that may be in place when we get back to class.
- There will be restrictions on the number of students per class, therefore bookings will be required
- Anyone who is feeling unwell will not be admitted to class
- Partner work will not be allowed
- Hand sanitiser will be used at the beginning and during class
- There will be no sharing of equipment (i.e. drink bottles, towels, gloves, etc.)
- Social distancing will be observed during class
- Spectators will not be allowed in class at this time
This criteria will be reviewed as further information is provided to us.
We are all looking forward to getting back to class and we will make sure to do it in the safest possible way.
Online Classes
At this point our free online classes will continue every weekday as well as the introduction of Saturday morning pattern sessions for coloured belt students.
22nd March 2020 – Covid-19 restrictions are put into place
On the 22nd March, Prime Minister Scott Morrison announced that indoor sporting centres were advised to close temporarily. This resulted in the AFTA temporarily suspending it’s face to face classes until otherwise advised.
Training during this time
During this time, for all current 2020 AFTA members, free online classes have been running every weekday. This is to allow students to keep their fitness training up and keep in touch socially with other students.
Once we are able to resume face to face classes, further information will be provided through this website, Facebook, and email communications.
